Space A flights

Military aircraft may have spare passenger seats available to eligible travelers. Use official AMC resources to understand the rules and find your departure terminal.

Start with eligibility

Only authorized travelers qualify. Eligible veterans with a permanent service connected disability rated as total may use Category VI, subject to route and documentation rules. A VA rating alone does not confirm eligibility. Family travel depends on the traveler’s category and circumstances. Ask the departure terminal to confirm each traveler.

Active duty travelers generally need authorized leave or pass status. Guard and Reserve requirements can include additional paperwork. Do not assume that a spouse or child can travel under the same rules as the sponsor.

Standby travel, not a reserved flight. Signing up does not book a seat. Mission needs, traveler priority and spare capacity control boarding. Your return trip is not guaranteed. Keep a backup budget for commercial travel and lodging. Charges such as meals or certain passenger terminal fees may apply; ask the terminal.

    Check the official travel category and route rules for every traveler. Eligibility differs for active duty, retirees, Guard, Reserve and qualifying disabled veterans.

    Find a departure passenger terminal in the AMC directory. Ask about destinations, required identification, leave documentation, passports and any dependent travel requirements.

    Step 3

    Register directly with AMC using its official signup tool or the departure terminal’s accepted method. Keep your confirmation and verify receipt with the terminal.

    Step 4

    Check the departure terminal’s published 72 hour schedule and contact it for roll call and show time. Schedules and seat counts can change.

    Step 5

    Follow terminal instructions to mark yourself present and attend roll call. Keep money and time available for lodging or commercial travel if no seat is available.
