TRAVEL · VERIFIED STATE & AIRPORT GUIDE

Disabled veteran parking

Find the parking benefit before your next trip. Start with these verified examples from Florida, Texas and Louisiana.

Check the airport, not just your rating. A 100% VA rating is not a nationwide free parking pass. Fee exemptions, accessible space permissions, plates, documents and time limits are separate rules. This guide does not cover all 50 states.

Florida

Florida law requires publicly owned or operated airports to waive parking fees for vehicles displaying qualifying Florida disabled veteran plates under sections 320.084, 320.0842 or 320.0845. It also covers specified adapted vehicles and Florida Toll Exemption permits. A regular disability placard alone does not establish the same airport exemption.

Public street and metered parking exemptions also exist, but time limits and statutory exceptions apply. Do not assume private lots, valet services or event parking are free.

Fort Lauderdale · FLL

The City of Weston confirms courtesy parking for qualifying DV plates when the veteran is in the vehicle. Take your parking ticket and use a cashier exit lane. Request the exemption before the transaction is processed. Confirm current procedures with FLL.

Miami · MIA

MIA lists qualifying DV plates as eligible for free parking. Have the veteran present and ask parking staff to validate the exemption. Check the airport’s page for accepted plates and parking procedures.

Texas

Dallas Fort Worth · DFW

DFW accepts DV plates issued by Texas or another U.S. state when the plate identifies the owner as a disabled veteran. This can include a qualifying Florida DV plate. The vehicle must display the plate. Valet is excluded.

Take an entry ticket. At exit, use the intercom for validation. DFW requires disabling the vehicle’s NTTA TollTag for airport use at least 48 hours before travel. Its maximum consecutive parking period is 90 days. Confirm your setup before entering.

DFW’s policy does not establish the rules for every Texas airport. Check the airport you will actually use. Texas accessible spaces require an appropriate plate or placard displaying the International Symbol of Access.

Louisiana

New Orleans · MSY

MSY has a disabled veteran parking program with required documents and validation at exit. Veterans visiting from outside Louisiana must obtain a signed LDVA F33 form. A Florida DV plate alone is not enough to assume eligibility.

Read the current Disabled Veteran Parking Plan for the disability threshold, request form and proof of travel requirements. The published plan requires taking a physical entry ticket and excludes prepaid reservations and valet. Arrange paperwork before your trip.

Before using any airport

  1. Check whether your home state’s plate is accepted.
  2. Ask which lots and maximum stay qualify.
  3. Confirm whether reservations or toll tags affect the waiver.
  4. Bring required ID, registration and travel paperwork.
  5. Request validation before paying. Refunds may not be available afterward.

Military Compass does not collect your plate, disability rating or documents. Provide verification only to the airport or responsible authority.
